Reality PPC Review: Reviewed By a Real Member

As a member of Google Cash Detective, I have been able to get early access to Reality PPC Workshop. This course is going to be released to the general public in a few days: December 17th 2009, at 12:00 noon EST.

I actually have been quite DISAPPOINTED by one thing, before giving you more details, watch this short video tour of the Reality PPC members area as a proof that I'm a REAL member:

Wilson or Carpenter?

Chris Carpenter is well known for his Google Cash method and for his recent product called Google Cash Detective.

But Chris is actually not the author of Reality PPC – Rather I would say he is just a publisher in this case (even if he's giving some of his content), the actual core content of the Reality PPC Workshop course has been created by Jeremy Wilson, who is considered the best Google Cash student and who is generating several hundreds of thousands of dollars per month in gross sales (expenses and earnings are totally disclosed in his Reality PPC video case studies).

Reality PPC – Learning Modules

The Reality PPC Workshop course is composed of 13 major learning modules. One of them being a 6 weeks case study and another one being a very rare 11 sub-modules video course from the "Agency Adwords Elite" (they limited the sales of "Agency Adwords Elite" to 500 copies in the past and it was sold for $397 – their offer is now closed and from what I know it can only be accessed through Reality PPC now).

Reality PPC – Adwords Recession

The first training module of the Reality PPC Workshop is called "Adwords Recession".

Adwords Recession Definition: Sales and revenue lost as a result of Google "Slapping" profitable PPC affiliate campaigns.

This happened to hundreds or should I say thousands of affiliates during the latest Google slap.

This first learning module came about as a result of google's continuous cracking down on affiliate marketers and sort of tightening the range of what they accept and what they don't accept. This is why Jeremy thought of a certain approach and certain techniques that when applied helped him to recover his slapped campaigns. If you're in the PPC game, it is critically important to watch these videos without skipping any of them, even if you are an experienced Adwords advertiser.

The Adwords Recession module is composed of 12 videos:

Reality PPC – Case Studies

Jeremy has recorded several videos in the form of personal case studies.

The main one is a 6 weeks case study where Jeremy shows how he did his market research, selected a product to promote, did his keyword research, built his campaign etc…

In this 6 weeks case study he didn't limit hismelf to direct linking to the merchant's page. He also created 2 other campaigns: a classic review type landing page and a presell page. This case study is very interesting as you can see how well a presell page, review page and direct linking campaigns compare to each other in terms of costs and performance.

Here is a breakdown of what you will find in this 6 weeks case study:

6 Weeks Case Study – Week 1

The Week 1 learning module is composed of 10 videos. Jeremy Wilson shows how he performs market research as well as keywords and products evaluation. The market research method he has developed and called the "GAP Research Method" is quite a radical shift in the way we are used to do market research.

If you are not very familiar with market research, here is how the traditional affiliate marketing research process works:

  • Pick a market
  • Enter keywords into Google
  • Look for other affiliates
  • If you find affiliates, use a spy tool to grab their keywords
  • Copy products, keywords, ad text etc…
  • Enter the market

The GAP Research method that Jeremy explains in the Week 1 learning module is very different, and his approach makes a lot of sense. First he explains the theory behind this concept and then he shows you how he used GAP Research to select the competitive market he entered for this case study.

6 Weeks Case Study – Week 2

The week 2 learning module is composed of 12 videos and is all about direct linking.

In this module, Jeremy shows the simple strategies he is using himself to quickly launch and test a direct linking campaign in any market with minimal effort. Those step by step videos are very interesting as we can see the entire process used by the Google Cash best student ever.

Two interesting points I noticed:

  • He never uses his direct affiliate link or a cloaked affiliate link in his Adwords campaigns. Even if they are direct linking campaings he shows you how he tracks everything to gather crucial data that help to increase his earnings and decrease his expenses.
  • A very clever Ad Copy creation strategy that allows him to have perfect relevancy between the keywords he is bidding on, his adwords ads and the merchant's landing page.

I also liked the tip about using excel to build the Adwords campaign instead of the Adwords Editor. The way he does it makes the campaign creation even faster than with the Adwords tool.

Among those 12 videos, 5 of them are Q&A sessions. Remember that this Reality PPC Workshop was done in front of a live audience and Jeremy's students asked some pretty good and tricky questions.

6 Weeks Case Study – Week 3

The week 3 learning module is composed of 19 videos. 11 of them being Q&A Sessions! The videos from that week generated a lot of questions and I bet you will learn as much from those Q&A sessions as from what you will learn from the actual course content.

The first few videos of this module are related to the previous one. Jeremy analyzes the results of his direct linking campaign. You will see his clickbank account, his RevenueWire account and his Commission Junction account as well as his Adwords stats.

After this analysis Jeremy shows how he starts a new campaign to promote the same products but with a review style landing page.  It is well known that conversions are much higher with review pages than with direct linking campaigns. The landing page he has developed for this case study is eye-opening. He breaks it down before your eyes and explains the "why" of each element. He actually didn't create the page himself, he outsourced every piece of it and explains how he selected the freelance worker and what information he gave him to have this page done. I'm myself outsourcing many things for my niche websites and this information is priceless (you will understand why when you will see the quality of his landing page).

He then shows how he creates his ad copy. He is using a different strategy than the one he explained for his direct linking campaign. Without revealing his method I can say that he is getting inspiration from winning affiliate ads in different but ultra competitive markets. This method makes a lot of sense and after watching how he does it himself you will find that it is very easy and fast.

6 Weeks Case Study – Week 4

The week 4 learning module is composed of 10 videos.

In the first videos of this module Jeremy comes back a little bit on his direct linking campaign with more data analysis. He also shows how he uses Google Cash Detective (GCD 3 is part of the Reality PPC package) to investigate and clone the strategies of successful merchants.

On a side note Google Cash Detective 3 is powered by a new data base architecture that literally triples the speed of searches. These architecture changes will enable them to roll out more advanced search features and handle more data in the near future. Personally I don't have any problem with the speed of GCD 2, if they had to do this it means that the coming features are going to need a lot of resources. Wondering what it's all about…end of side note!

After that we get to see the first elements of analysis of Jeremy's review site campaign. These first results show that the keywords he initially selected brought him very low traffic. Something important to consider here: most of the time, ppc beginners do it all wrong – as soon as they start their campaigns they bid on high search volume keywords that are not targeted enough. They of course end up losing a lot of money. One common thing I have seen from successful ppc marketers is that they start their campaigns with ultra targeted keywords and expand later. The low search volume they get at the beginning helps them to make some adjustments to their sites in order to increase the conversions.

And this is exactly what Jeremy starts to do in this session. He shows how he expands his review site keywords list to get more targeted traffic as well as how he refines his ad groups and removes the under-performing ads.

6 Weeks Case Study – Week 5

The week 5 learning module is composed of 8 videos.

Something very important happened behind the scenes. Jeremy got to the point where he decided to start outsourcing his Adwords campaigns management. He explained that he didn't want to do that, he likes having total control, and his campaigns are quite secretive, but because he is running too many campaigns it became too time consuming to track and tweak them himself on a regular basis. He also has several ideas and projects he wants to implement but for that he needs more time, this lead him to this decision.

But this is actually a good thing for us because the company he hired for this manages accounts of very big companies. They have extremely high ad expenses and because of that developed good relationship with their Google reps. And this company has stressed about 2 main things that were absent from Jeremy's initial review page:  2 elements that improves the landing page quality score dramatically.

So the first half of this learning module is about the changes that Jeremy made to his review page to improve his quality score. Once again this information is priceless and being able to see the changes from his initial page to the recommended one is something that we can't see anywhere else.

The second half shows the content Jeremy created for his presell page (which is different from his review page described above). He also builds his adwords campaign and starts driving traffic to the new page.

6 Weeks Case Study – Week 6

The week 6 learning module is composed of 6 videos. 2 of them being Q&A sessions. In this module Jeremy shows and compares the performance of his 3 campaigns – the earnings as well as the expenses.

In your opinion which one of the campaigns performed better? The direct linking campaign? The review page? … or the presell page?

The answer might be different from what you think ;)

Other PPC Reality Case Studies

Jeremy also recorded 2 other case studies that are less indepth but cover some other things he didn't talk about in the 6 weeks videos, like how he used a kind of black hat presell page for quick profits. I think this one is not for everyone but it gives you a new weapon in your affiliate arsenal that you probably have not heard about yet.

Additionally to the case studies, Jeremy has recorded several training videos that deal with copywriting, selecting products to promote, spying on gurus etc… Here is a quick overview of the Espionage training videos:

In this section, Jeremy shows how to find untapped keywords in proven, money making, competitive markets through 4 videos. Very good information is presented here and one of the free tools being used is one that I was planning to use more in my own business.

3. Domain Espionage

I wish Jeremy didn't mention what he teaches in this video. This is one of the secrets I have been using myself to reverse engineer super affiliate online businesses and find a huge number of their websites. I have myself been able to uncover hundreds of  niche markets I never thought about. I wish I could have kept this secret to myself longer… Now that the Reality PPC  students know how to use this technique I definitely have to spend some time to hide my niche sites from a new horde of web spies.

4. Guru Espionage

This one is extremely interesting. Jeremy shows how he reverse engineered a profitable $100,000 per month niche. This is really worth your time as you will be able to discover what this niche is :)

It will also surely give you some ideas to reverse engineer some other profitable niches yourself… The name of the section is very appropriate in this case.

5. Keyword Espionage

PPC Classroom 2 Video There are tons of programs out there that claim to teach you about affiliate programs and web marketing. In fact, a quick search on one of the popular search engine can easily turn up tens of thousands of programs, each one of them guaranteeing amazing results and "insider secrets". The downside of this is that the majority of these programs are nothing more than a compilation of common sense tips and common knowledge strategies. You could end up paying for one of these programs and end up losing money that will never be regained even if you follow all the advice given.
